SQL Server DBA expertise for databases that are fast, reliable and under control
Samix Technology is a consultancy specializing in Microsoft SQL Server: we audit, tune and administer the databases of small and mid-sized companies and software vendors, fully remote, for teams in France and abroad. Every engagement is led by a senior DBA with more than 15 years of production experience.
- 15+ years in production
- Read-only access
- T-SQL scripts included

Does one of these sound familiar?
These are the reasons we get called most often. Every one of them has a measurable cause, and almost always a reasonable fix.
The application crawls at peak hours
Screens that take ten seconds to load, overnight jobs spilling into the working day, CPU at 100% with no explanation.
Recurring blocking and deadlocks
Users stuck on frozen screens, transactions rolled back, and nobody who can read a blocking graph.
No DBA in-house anymore
Your DBA left, or you never had one. The databases run, but nobody really knows how.
SQL Server 2012, 2014 or 2016 out of support
Extended support for SQL Server 2016 ended on July 14, 2026. Without security fixes, your exposure grows every month.
Backups nobody has ever restored
The jobs are green, but nobody has checked that a full restore fits within your RTO.
Licenses and cloud bills that cost too much
Enterprise edition where Standard would do, oversized core counts, underused Azure instances.

Every service has a scope, deliverables and a price known in advance. You choose the level of support, we adapt to your team.

Why outsource your SQL Server expertise?
A full-time senior SQL Server DBA is expensive and hard to hire. Most companies do not need one five days a week: they need the right expertise at the right time.
Our SQL Server consultants work like a database administrator embedded in your team: the flexibility of a freelance or independent DBA, with the continuity and structure of a company.
Senior expertise, no subcontracting
Your servers are handled by a senior DBA, not a junior contractor or a chain of subcontractors. You talk directly to the person doing the work.
More than 15 years of production SQL Server
High-volume transactional systems, data warehouses, SaaS vendors: our lead DBA has lived through the incidents you want to avoid.
Our own diagnostic tooling
We built AutoDBA, our 41-rule analysis engine that screens configuration, indexes, waits and support exposure. Audits go faster and nothing gets skipped.
Deliverables your team can reuse
Reports in plain English, commented scripts, written procedures. Our goal is to make you self-sufficient, not dependent on us.
Clients
What our clients say
Software vendors, agri-food groups, financial services: demanding environments, in France and abroad.
“The real-time analytics platform Samix built on Azure, with streaming analytics from our greenhouses and data collection tablets feeding into a data lake, has transformed our BI capabilities and given us insights we never had before.”
“Samix created our master data universe, bringing together all our disparate data sources into one coherent system. It's been a game-changer for how we manage and leverage our data.”

Who works on your databases?
Every engagement is led by Evan Barke, our lead DBA. He has run SQL Server databases in production for more than 15 years, from high-volume transactional systems to enterprise BI platforms, in France and abroad. He has published a series of technical articles on SQLShack and designed AutoDBA, our SQL Server diagnostic engine.

SQL Server 2016 end of support (July 14, 2026): what to do now
Since July 14, 2026, SQL Server 2016 no longer receives security fixes. What that changes in practice, what ESUs cost, and how to choose between SQL Server 2022, SQL Server 2025 and Azure.
Performance
Slow SQL Server: how to find the real cause before buying hardware
When an application slows down, the first reflex is often to add cores or memory. Here is the method we follow to find the real cause, with T-SQL queries you can run yourself.
Configuration and audit
SQL Server configuration: 8 default settings to change
SQL Server installs in a few clicks, but several of its default settings date from another era. They are the first things we check during an audit, with a script to review them.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a SQL Server DBA engagement cost?
Audits and one-off projects are quoted at a fixed price after a free scoping call: the price depends on the number of instances and the scope, and you know it before you commit. Remote DBA services are billed as a monthly subscription, based on a number of days agreed together.
Do you work remotely or on site?
Our engagements are fully remote, through the VPN, bastion host or remote access tool of your choice, for companies in France and abroad. We can travel for a kickoff, a workshop or a critical cutover.
Can you work on a time and materials basis, like a freelance DBA?
Yes. Audits and projects are offered at a fixed price; ongoing support and extra hands on a project can be billed on a time and materials basis. The difference from a freelance or independent DBA: you work with a company, senior DBAs, and continuity guaranteed by the team if a consultant changes.
Do you work in English?
Yes, in English as well as French. Our SQL Server DBAs and consultants run MSSQL audits, performance tuning, migrations and Always On projects with English-speaking teams, and all deliverables can be written in English.
What access do you need for an audit?
A read-only login is enough, with the VIEW SERVER STATE and VIEW ANY DEFINITION permissions. No agent is installed, nothing is changed and no business data is read: we only query SQL Server's system views.
Which SQL Server versions do you support?
SQL Server 2008 R2 through SQL Server 2025, Standard and Enterprise editions, on Windows or Linux, as well as Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance and SQL Server on Azure or AWS virtual machines.
Can you work alongside our managed service provider or software vendor?
Yes. A SQL Server consultant from our team joins your existing teams, whether that is your IT department, your managed service provider or your ERP vendor. Our role is to bring the database expertise that is missing, not to replace anyone.
Will you sign an NDA?
Yes, we can sign an NDA before any technical discussion. Audit data collections only contain technical metadata (configuration, wait statistics, indexes), never the contents of your tables.
A SQL Server problem to solve?
Describe your setup to a SQL Server expert: we reply within one business day with a first read of the situation and a clear proposal.
